Robert Longo is an internationally known visual artist who has exhibited since the late 1970’s. Longo is widely known for his large-scale works in various mediums: film, theatre, drawing and music.

He directed the movie Johnny Mnemonic (1995), starring Keanu Reeves, Dolph Lundgren and Takeshi Kitano. Longo has also directed music videos for New Order (Bizarre Love Triangle), Megadeth (Peace Sells), and REM (The One I Love.)

He was an active participant in the NYC Downtown No Wave music scene in the early 1980’s, playing music with Glenn Branca and Rhys Chatham. He is co-founder and guitarist of the art-rock band The X-Patsys, along with his wife, Barbara Sukowa (vocals) and artist Jon Kessler (guitars.) Winter & Winter will release The X-PATSYS first album “Devouring Time” this month.

Longo has exhibited in museums throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. He has been included in Documenta, the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennial. His work is in numerous major museums and private collections all over the world; The Museum of Modern Art, NYC; The Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Albertina, Vienna; and the Ludwig Museum, Germany. He was the 2005 recipient of the Goslar Kaiser Ring for modern art. A retrospective of his works (from 1980 – Present) is currently on view at the Berardo Museum Collection in Lisbon through April 2010. A catalog published by Skira/Rizzoli for this exhibition is now available. He is represented by Metro Pictures in NYC.

Robert Longo lives and works in New York with his wife, Barbara Sukowa, and 3 sons. He has surfed since the age of 13. His three sons all surf and snowboard.
